Bishop Mead informed the clergy and the Diocesan Council on 26th May 2022, that, after a long period of discernment, Father Martin Charlesworth has decided to leave the Anglican Catholic Church with the intention to join the Orthodox Church.
Bishop Mead has therefore released him from his canonical vows and has withdrawn his temporary licence. (Father Charlesworth, who was received into the ACC on 20th March 2020, was, in accordance with ACC practice, awaiting regularisation of his orders in the ACC which had been delayed by the Covid pandemic).
The Provisional Anglican Catholic Mission of Our Lady and St Anthony, which was being established in York, has also been removed from our directory.
Commenting Bishop Mead said “Father Martin leaves us on friendly terms and with my blessing. I pray that he, Veronika and their children will be happy, and his decision will bear much spiritual fruit”.
