Bishop Damien writes: The terrible fire which has so seriously damaged Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris today, Monday 15th April, is a colossal tragedy for the people of the City and for France – indeed for all of us who have had the pleasure and privilege of visiting. The Roman Catholic Church in France has suffered a considerable onslaught of incidents of vandalism in recent months to Church buildings throughout the country. At the time of writing this it is believed that the cause of the fire is accidental – this, and that no lives have been lost thus far in trying to save the Cathedral, are the only comfort.
The Archbishop of Paris, his clergy and people, are especially in my thoughts and prayers during this terrible time. As we journey through Holy Week I will offer by devotions for their intentions.
