The chapel of the parish of Our Lady of Walsingham and S. Francis, Rochester, is in a unique position in the Diocese in being situated in the midst of a military cemetery wherein lie the remains of servicemen and women who gave their lives in conflicts as far back as the Crimean War. Before Mass on Sunday 3 August, in the section containing the burials of First World War personnel, Fr Thompson conducted a short service to commemorate the centenary of the beginning of the Great War. A reading was given by Beth Farrant.
