The 17th Provincial Synod was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

The Vicar General, The Very Revd Damien Mead, represented the Diocese of the United Kingdom. Unfortunately Mr john Upton the Lay delegate injured his foot prior to Synod and was unable to attend.

This year each Diocese and jurisdiction in the Original Province was represented, with delegates from North and Central America, South, Central and East Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean as well as the UK. The ACC’s Second Province was represented by His Grace Archbishop John Augustine, Metropolitan of India.

During the Synod the Rt. Rev. Wilson Garang and his Diocese of Aweil in Sudan were received as a constitutive Diocese of the Original Province of the ACC.

Additionally, Archbishop Haverland appointed the Rt. Rev. Brian Iverach as his Metropolitical Episcopal Assistant with special responsibilities for the ACC in the Antipodes, liaison between the Original Province and the Province of India, and ACC work in East Africa.

Also received as a member of the College of Bishops was the Rt. Rev. Denis Hodge of New Zealand.

In his charge to the Synod, Archbishop Haverland said, “We should remember that our mission is universal and that our perspective should be global. We build our parishes by building the whole Church, even as we build the whole Church by nurturing healthy parishes. Successful parishes have a heart for missions. Churches with missions tend to have successful parishes.”
