Bishop Condemns Violence Against, and Persecution of Christians

Bishop Damien Mead requests the whole Diocese to pray for the persecuted Church around the world.

Stating; "Our brothers and sisters in Christ are suffering on an unprecedented scale in the Middle East, Africa and around the world. Persecution of the faithful has happened before, it is happening now and it will happen in the future until the Second coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, wipes the tears from our eyes and brings an end to death and suffering. Of course we pray for all victims of violence and persecution, who ever they may be and whatever faith, or none, they may hold. But it is appropriate that we show solidarity with our fellow Christians, many of whom are in parts of the world where there has been a Christian presence since the days of the Apostles."
Bishop Mead went on to say: "Our prayers are offered constantly and what limited support we have available to us in other ways, has been sent to relief agencies. We are well aware that there are many in our society who seek to downplay the extent of Christian suffering, or who use these events to remind us, and the world, that there has been atrocities and violence committed in the Name of Christ by Our Lords followers in the past. The Christian Church has long learned to apologise for it's errors and the mistakes it has made". Answering an age old accusation that "Christianity has caused wars", the Bishop said, "Christianity does not cause wars, SIN causes wars".

Lord have mercy upon us.
Christ have mercy upon us.
Lord have mercy upon us.

"If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me."
John 15:18-21
