Appointment of Organist in Canterbury

Dr Michael Bond

The Bishop has announced the appointment of Dr Michael Bond, BMus, ARCM, as Organist at St Augustine's Church, Canterbury, Kent.

Dr Bond studied the Organ at Bristol Cathedral with the late Clifford Harker (Organist & Master of the Choristers) he obtained a degree in Music, and in later years studied for his PhD in Sociology. In addition to his appointment at st Augustine's he is currently Director of Music at the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Birchington, near Margate, a position he has held for the past year. Prior to his move to Margate in 2013 he was at the Parish Church of Christ Church, Streatham South London, a position he enjoyed for some several year and reluctantly resigned upon his move to Kent. He is also one of the five rota Organists at Margate (Thanet Crematorium).

As well as studying the Organ, Dr Bond maintained a full time Job for the past 41 years as a Funeral Director, starting first within his family business in Somerset then, moving to London to take up a position with a very prestigious family firm. He is a qualified Funeral Director have obtained his diploma in Funeral Directing and, is also a qualified Embalmer!

In 2014 he reports he was in the very fortunate position of being able to take "early retirement". Welcome Michael!
