New Pulpit in Canterbury

Our Canterbury Parish, St Augustine's, took delivery recently of a new pulpit purchased secondhand at auction. The Bishop, commenting on his Facebook page, said: "The new pulpit has been taken to Canterbury - thank you Roy Hipkiss and Andy Hall. This (Passion) Sunday will see it blessed and used for the first time. :-)
The Pulpit had originally been used in a Roman Catholic Church in Nottinghamshire but had become surplus to their requirements.
The Pulpit will be blessed and dedicated to the glory of God and in memory of the late Douglas and Gillian Parry who have left some money for the purpose of a 'useable' memorial.

Almighty God, Creator of the universe, who hast set the stars in the heavens and caused the sun to rise and set, shed the light of Thy wisdom into the darkness of my mind. Fill my thoughts with the loving knowledge of Thee, that I may bring Thy light to others. Just as Thou maketh even babes speak Thy truth, instruct my tongue and guide my pen to convey the wonderful glory of the Gospel. Make my intellect sharp, my memory clear, and my words eloquent, so that I may faithfully interpret the mysteries which Thou hast revealed. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Based upon a prayer composed by St Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274)"
