On Sunday 13th July 2014, the Bishop received into the full communion of the Anglican Catholic Church the Revd Dr Miles Edward Maylor. The reception took place before the Parish Mass at St Augustine’s Church, Canterbury, Kent. Fr Maylor also made his canonical oaths to the Bishop before the congregation.
The question most people seem to ask Fr Miles when first introduced is: Where do you come from? They cannot place the accent! That is because he was born in the Peak District, but went to school in Cheshire and lived part time in Lancashire. The early part of life culminated in qualification as a State Registered Nurse. However, this led to a diverse career: studying divinity at St Andrews University, teaching Biblical Culture for the Churchs Ministry amongst the Jews, then returning to nursing to become an Academic and Consultant in the treatment of wounds.
Fr Miles served his title (was a curate), within the Church in Wales, in Mountain Ash, in the South Wales Valleys, whilst working as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Glamorgan. After this he moved to Oxford where he lived and worked for a few years, and served as a non-stipendiary priest in several parishes both on the outskirts in the villages, then in the city centre at St Barnabas, Jericho. After taking early retirement from the health service, he went back to Pembrokeshire, which was the family home; and worked as an Assistant Curate in the Church in Wales. For conscientious reasons, he left to join the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, and did further study for ordination as a Roman Catholic. It became clear that this was not home in the spiritual sense, so he went back to Pembrokeshire to live whilst seeking Gods will for the future. He hopes that the ACC will be a place for his ministry to be nurtured for the glory of God.
Fr Miles likes to study the classical guitar, to read history, and to return to the pleasure of dinghy sailing if possible.
