Christmas Trees and Carols in South Molton, Devon

Every year South Molton, Devon, has a Christmas Festival Weekend. The shops stay open late, the town square is closed to all traffic and is filled with stalls and actives, and Santa comes to town. The parish church (C of E) holds a Christmas tree festival over the weekend as part of the towns festivity. Each tree is decorated to reflect the various groups, schools, churches and businesses represented in the town, a total of 52 trees. Our Mission’s tree (above) was decorated by Mr David Sussex & Mrs Pauline Clothier.

Part of Fr. Michaels ministry in South Molton takes him in to a Care Home & Nursing Home, and this year he was asked to a take a Carol Service in both homes. The first Carol Service was on Sunday 9th December, in the Care Home for the residents when he had 30 people present, the main carol service being taken by the Baptist & Methodist Ministers.
The second Carol Service was on Friday 14th December in the Nursing Home when Fr. Michael had around 80 people, which included the residents, resident families and staff. This was followed on the Wednesday with a Carol Service in the Dementia wing of the Nursing Home. Fr. Michael based the services on the traditional 9 Lessons and Carols but shorten it to 6 lessons because of the Care Home environment. During the singing of the carols the figures where placed in the crib. At the end of the service Fr. Michael was given a present for all the work that he did in the Nursing Home. The service was followed by a buffet provided by the Nursing Home".
The Carol Service on Wednesday 19th December was in the Dementia Wing and was just for the residents of the wing, their families and staff, a total of 22 people, and was a more simplified service with only 3 lessons, followed by a selection of carols

Father Christmas in Ashford, Kent

On Saturday 15th December 2012 the Bishop assisted Father Christmas (in a very special way) at a children's party to raise funds for 'Credo Kid's', a new Charity the Bishop has founded, (to provide special educational equipment and toys for children with disabilities and complex medical needs) and for 'Includes Us 2' ( an Ashford based parent driven charity providing friendly advice, information and education, and events and Social Events for disabled children and their families). 90 plus children visited him in his grotto, anbd afterwards he waved goodbye to them as they left the centre where the party was held. Santa was assisted by his Elf helper (Jemima Hipkiss).
