All Souls-tide Services in Rochester

On the evening of 2 November the Parish of Our Lady and Saint Francis held a Sung Requiem Mass during which we remembered by name those for whom we had been asked to pray. The list this year numbered several dozen. Then on the Sunday following, 6 November, we once again welcomed to a special ceremony those people whom we regularly see and chat to as they visit the final resting places of their loved ones in the cemetery. Graves were visited as requested for prayers, re-hallowing and sprinkling and there was a brand-new headstone to be dedicated this year. The service began and finished in the chapel where we were glad of the shelter from the rain. About twenty people attended, some coming to Mass and coffee beforehand. On Remembrance Sunday this year, thanks to the skills of Derek Lane, the Last Post was played live instead of the usual recording.
