Rochester Patronal

Father Thompson writes...This year the Rochester mission of Our Lady and St Francis held its Patronal Festival on Saturday 9 October, and with a question mark over the weather prospects we decided to wait until the last minute before deciding about the wisdom of processing outdoors as we usually do. When it came to it the weather let us down and for the first time we had to sing our processional hymn indoors. The wind and rain did nothing to dampen the spirit of the occasion, though, and a joyous Mass celebrating the example and inspiration of our two co-patrons was enjoyed by all. After Mass everyone satisfied the "inner man/woman" with a picnic lunch and had a good natter while the altar was prepared for the office of Benediction, which concluded the festivities. It was agreed that those who hadn't been able to come along had missed a wonderful celebration - but there is always next year!
